Welcome to the Oceanic Research Group at UCLA

We have a broad range of research projects, which include ocean modeling of various scales, theoretical studies, and participation of oceanic fieldwork.

A primary focus of the group has been the development of the Regional Oceanic Modeling System (ROMS) - a three-dimensional numerical oceanic model intended for simulating currents, ecosystems, biogeochemical cycles, and sediment movement in coastal regions.

Additional computer modeling in the group uses large eddy simulation (LES) computer codes.  For our computational needs we use super computing centers such as NCSA, NCAR, and SDSC as well as maintain a Linux cluster at UCLA.

Our group is also involved with projects on ocean surface remote sensing using aircraft, with the deployment and maintenance of the UCLA Santa Monica Bay mooring, and with ocean measurement programs using the UCLA research vessel.
