ULRP Team teleconference, Mar 5, 2009

We discussed the comparison of the data assimilation results using 1D VERB code and DREAM code. The results of data assimilation for 2002 compare favorably to each other. There are small differences during the main phase of the storm most likely to the differences in the boundary conditions. We discussed different types of boundary conditions including boundary at the last closed drift shell and a boundary condition determined from the parameter estimation. We also discussed the sequential assimilation of the satellite data and different errors of the used satellite observations. Action items: Binbin will download GPS data and incorporate it. Josef will try to compare DREAM and VERB for the 1990 and 1991 and will also try to implement the Kalman smoother. Dmitri will try various boundary conditions , will implement Kalman smoother and will try to perform data assimilation with a constant in time covariance matrix.
